The Kylie Jenner Lip kits sold out in under 30 seconds when they first launched and have been plastered across social media ever since. I had to get my hands on some of the Lip Kit’s to review for you, obviously I used it as an excuse to purchase 3 anyway (whoops!). Before I go into a detailed review of Candy K, Koko K and Posie K, I want to discuss the ordering process and shipping.
Ordering process and shipping for people in the UK
I’m not going to lie, the ordering process, felt like a scene from the hunger games. If you’re not already aware, the lip kits are only available on Kylie Cosmetics website and limited amount of lip kits are released at once. Unfortunately for us UK folk, the time the lip kits are usually released is around midnight. Once I found out when the next batch were going to be released, I set my alarm for 11:45pm and waited for chaos to ensue. When it hit midnight, I added the lip kit’s to my basket like a mad woman. The new process, puts everyone into a queue once you’ve checked out, which I think is a pretty fair system. But the first time I did it (my first failed attempt), the website kept crashing and I couldn’t even reach the site. I never thought I’d stay up till midnight trying to buy bloody liquid lipstick!
Ok, so after I managed to purchase the 3 lip kits, I had to wait 10 days for them to be delivered. I also had to pay $14.95 (£10.50) in shipping costs, but did manage to escape any taxes. I’ve heard it’s pretty much pot luck on who pays importation taxes, so bare this in mind if you’re going to make a purchase, especially if you only end up buying one lip kit.
The lip liner packaging and formula
The Kylie lip pencils are similar packaging to mac liners. They are creamy, think Mac’s pro longwear formula, and glide on the lips very easily. I think Posie K liner is the hardest of the 3, but it’s still very easy to apply. Contrary to other bloggers advice, you can sharpen them!
The liquid lipstick packaging and formula
The liquid lipstick formula is surprisingly light and watery. The formula feels very comfortable and long wearing on the lips. Unlike other liquid lipsticks, the consistency is not thick or cakey. The doe foot applicator is small and makes easy work of application. The liquid lipsticks last all day, without any top ups. Today I had two coffees, a sandwich and an apple and it hardly moved.
The only thing that I’m not a huge fan of is that the tube doesn’t have a plastic stopper, this means that sometimes too much product stays on the wand. Also, the smell is extremely sweet, like vanilla and butterscotch. Personally, I don’t mind it but know quite a few people who can’t stand it. Like most matte lip products, the formula does become quite dry, especially throughout the day. But applying a little lip balm over the top will help this.
Koko K, Candy K and Posie K
The lightest shade of the bunch (first swatch on the left), this light pink/beige is the perfect nude for me. I was actually expecting it to be more pink but I really do like it. It drys a lot darker than the packaging and tube. The lip pencil is also great on it’s own or with a gloss on top.
A brown nude, which reminds me of an old school 90’s music video. This is Kylie’s signature colour and I actually really like it on my lips. It’s not like anything I’ve tried before, even though it’s quite similar to Velvet Teddy, it’s not the same! This would look great on most skin tones and think this is the best one for staying power.
I think this is my favourite shade, a mauve/pinky shade which brings out my green eyes. Although this seems to be the most drying formula, it doesn’t flake and stays put for most of the day.
