As you’ll probably have guessed, I have a bit of an obsession for lipsticks, particularly the high end variety. I’ve actually never tried any Dior makeup before, so when I saw the Rouge Dior lipstick launch on John Lewis, I couldn’t pass off the opportunity to add them to my collection. I managed to get my hands on two of the Rouge Dior lipsticks; the Rouge Dior lipstick baume in Coquette 660 and Dior Rouge lipstick in 414 Saint Germain. I’ve been trying them out for the past week, so read on for my first impressions!
I like the navy blue packaging on the Dior lipsticks, but was surprised at how light they feel. A lot of my more higher end lipsticks, think Charlotte Tilbury and Nars, are a lot heavier and feel a little more expensive. Having said that you’ll see from the pictures below, the navy blue and silver packaging is beautiful and I just love that the inside of the lipstick lid is a bright red colour.
I picked up Dior Rouge Baume in the shade Coquette 660, a lip treatment which also provides a balmy, semi-sheer finish. I don’t have anything like the Dior Rouge Baume in my current collection and love the glossy finish it provides to my lips whilst feeling quite moisturising. The description suggests that this lipstick intensely smooths lips whilst helping to make them appear plumped and full, and I can say I agree.
The shade Coquette 660 is a semi-sheer berry red colour, perfect for the Autumn transition. I’m also quite surprised at how pigmented the lipstick is, it feels very comfortable on the lips but only lasts around 3/4 hours and you certainly need to top up after meals/drinks. The only downfall of this lipstick is that the embossed “CD” disappears very quickly after a few swatches.
Dior Rouge lipstick in 414 Saint Germain is stunning, it has an extremely creamy texture which dries down to a matte finish (although to me, it’s not fully matte). The lipstick is not drying at all and actually feels extremely comfortable on the lips. Although Dior claims these last for 16h’s I’d say they last around 8 and do need a little topping up throughout the day, as they do transfer. The Dior rouge lipstick feels luxurious on the lips and is very pigmented. 414 Saint Germain is a natural pink/rose shade, perfect for my pale complexion and I absolutely adore the formulation.
Although the new Dior Rouge lipsticks are on the pricey side, £23.85 for the lipstick and £23.40 for the Baume. I would certainly recommend, and if I could recommend one, it would have to be the Dior Rouge lipstick. The formula is incredible and feels super comfortable and luxurious, whilst being matte. The creamy texture is beautiful and I can’t express in words how much I love Saint Germain. To celebrate the launch, John Lewis have applied 10% off the lipsticks, so get one whilst they’re on offer!
