Why you should start IPL in the Autumn & Winter hair removal tips*

I only recently found out that the best time to start using an IPL is during the Autumn. The reason being is that many people say that the laser works much better on your natural skin tone (when it’s free from any sort of tan). You might have been lucky to get some last minute sun, but Winter is also a good place to start IPL. Now I know what you’re thinking, I never shave my legs in the Winter, why would I? But it’s actually been proven that you receive a number of benefits to your skin if you remove hair with IPL throughout the colder months. Yep, I’m not crazy, but if you do like to go shave free during Winter, I don’t blame you, there is no right or wrong answer!

Although having said that, the Panasonic home IPL hair removal is perfect for removing unwanted hairs and helping to slow the growth. IPL stands for intense pulsed light and works by emitting light which penetrates into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigment of hair, which then kills the cells that make the hair. The reason it’s better to start in the Autumn is because you skin is usually lighter and the colour of the hair vs your skin will make it easier for the device to target the hair.

It’s crazy to think of all the products we have available to remove unwanted hair, Panasonic kindly suggested I include the history of hair removal in this post, to show how far we’ve come. Some of the methods are a little scary and seems to make IPL look a lot more appealing. Fancy using ammonia from cats? Wtf?!

Anyway, do not fear, whilst completing IPL, you can still shave. A good tip for Winter is to save your shave till the end of your shower. The reason for this is that the warmth/humidity of the shower softens your hair and makes it easier to remove hair whilst being less irritating on the skin.

Exfoliate before showering

I try to exfoliate at least once a week and have tried so many different exfoliation techniques. I have recently fallen in LOVE with Grounded body scrub when I received a sample pack in the Glamour beauty box. From  first use, I’ve not been able to get enough of it. Packed full of vitamins, anti-oxidants and amazing ingredients, Grounded body scrub has made my skin feel the softest it’s ever felt (and that’s not me being dramatic). It’s made from coffee beans, brown sugar and rock salt to help scrub away dry and flakey skin but also has vitamin e and almond oil to keen your skin moisturised and hydrated. It’s honestly the best way to exfoliate, even if it’s a little messy. Exfoliating with coffee is proven to also help reduce the appearance of cellulite and allow for an even closer shave.

Post shave moisturise

I’m sure I’m not the only one, but it’s SO much effort to moisturise after the shower. I try, at the very least, to moisturise after I’ve shaved. Egyptian magic has been sworn by, by the likes of Kate Hudson and Cara Delevingne, and I can so understand the hype. It’s massively multi-purpose (post to follow soon on all the ways I like to use it), but it has an after-shave soothing effect which helps to make my skin feel silky smooth. Although a little greasy and does take a while to fully absorb into the skin, it’s worth the wait and the benefits are amazing. You can also use Egyptian magic as shaving cream, I’m yet to try it but I’ve seen a few people recommend it.

Hope you enjoyed this post! A bit random, but wanted to share some of my random late night thoughts. Let me know your thoughts?
