Well that post title is one hell of a mouthful, but you know, needs must for SEO. After having my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette for a good couple of months, I thought I would share my thoughts on how it compares to the Makeup Revolution I Heart Eye Shadow Palette in I Heart Chocolate.
Before I start, I just wanted to declare my LOVE for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I actually posted a recently Youtube video on one way that I like to use it. You can view the video here (and don’t forget to subscribe!).
Initial impressions and packaging
Packaging – The Too Faced Chocolate bar palette comes in tin case whilst the Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate palette is made up of a plastic case with a brush, that I will never use. Although they’re both different in appearance, I actually like both outer cases.
Scent – The Too Faced Chocolate bar palette is enriched with cocoa powder, which gives it the most amazing sweet chocolate scent. It’s honestly divine! This is where the Makeup Revolution palette falls down, as it has a very *tiny* subtle sweet scent but it’s nothing like the Too Faced palette.
Side by side comparison of the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate palette
I decided to put the names of the Too Faced shades on the Makeup Revolution chocolate bar, to make it easier to talk through the shades and compare them. As you’ll see from the above picture, the palettes and shades look pretty identical, with exception of White Chocolate and Gilded Ganache being swapped around in the Makeup Rev palette.
Overall thoughts on the eyeshadows
The Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadows are super pigmented, buttery and glide onto the lid. The Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate palette has good pigment, but some of the shades are a little chalky and you don’t get as much colour pay-off. Overall, the Makeup Rev eyeshadows are extremely blendable and for the price, amazing value for money. But I do love the Too Faced Chocolate bar palette better, but if you don’t want to splurge and are unsure on all of the shades, buy the Makeup Revolution one. It won’t disappoint.
What the palettes look like swatched next to each other
The first Too Faced shade, Gilded Ganache, is olive tanner but the Makeup Revolution shade is a little darker (more black) and lack as much shimmer. The other shade which is quite different is Black forest truffle. The Too Faced eyeshadow has a deeper purple/brown shade in comparison to a Makeup Rev’s eyeshadow which is a lighter burgundy tone.
You’ll see that the Too Faced Marzipan eyeshadow is quite a bit more pigmented than it’s cheaper counterpart, also the Makeup Revolution shade is a little more on the gold side. Candid violet is very different in both palettes, Too Faced Candid Violet shade has a blue undertone with a purple shimmer whilst Makeup Rev shade lacks cool undertone and comes off a lot darker.
Too Faced Cherry Cordial is a plummy brown with flecks of sparkle whilst the Makeup Revolution cheaper counterpart is a darker burgundy shade which has quite a bit of fall out. Champagne Truffle in the Too Faced palette is an intense white/pink champagne eyeshadow, whilst the Makeup Revolution shade is not as intense and is a little more on the pinker side.
Makeup Revolution never fails to disappointment, I love the fact that they are providing cheaper alternatives! But if I was going to pick one, it would have to be the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. My love for the Chocolate bar palette is real and you cannot fault the pigmentation of some of the shades. But if you don’t want to splurge, then the Makeup Revolution I Heart Eye Shadow Palette in I Heart Chocolate is an awesome dupe.
