So a few months back, I was invited to attend the launch party of the new Tortilla Restaurant (Lakeside, Essex branch). Unfortunately, I had to work late, which meant I couldn’t attend the evening. Although the lovely Spreaditfast decided to send me some vouchers to try out the restaurant.
Mark and I decided to go one Saturday evening and was surprised that it wasn’t busy at all. Although not busy means no queue or wait for food (bonus for us!). I thought I’d break this post down into 3 areas, the appearance of the restaurant, the service and food quality.
So first the interior;
I really liked the way the restaurant was set out and it was clean and tidy. The little unique touches were cool too, such as the Tortilla/Taco wall paper and humorous quotes dotted around. All the food they serve is set out in front of you and created on the spot; the best type of fast food. I’ll give the decor a solid 9/10.
When we first approached the counter, the staff were extremely friendly. I presented the two vouchers and after much deliberation, decided to go for the “Dos Tacos” (more about the food later). Mark asked for a large burrito and said he would pay the extra. Although, the waitress was more than happy to give us whatever we wanted for free! I have to say all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with the exception of one member of staff. I’m going to put it down to her having a bad day, so overall I’ll give the service a 8.5/10.
And now for the best part, the food..
As I said previously, I went for the Dos Tacos; two soft tortillas with my choice of meat, salsa, cheese or sour cream and shredded lettuce. As you can probably see from the below picture I decided to add guacamole too (heaven). Mark got a large burrito (rice, beans, peppers, your choice of meat, salsa, cheese and sour cream). As if that wasn’t enough food, we also opted for some tortilla chips with cheese and sour cream. Find the entire menu here.
The food was fresh, hot and tasty. It literally took Mark and I a couple of minutes to devour the entire Mexican feast. I don’t think I need to tell you that we really enjoyed it. The only thing we thought that could’ve been better, would be melted cheese on the tacos instead of grated. Now if that’s the only improvement point then they’ve done a really good job. The rating has to be 9/10. I’d highly recommend you go check out one of the chains, they’re all across London (and now in Essex – woo!). Apparently in Mark’s office, there’s a thing called “Burrito Friday” so if you need an excuse, then I’d use that..
If you want some lovely comfort food, then I’d highly recommend. For more info on Tortilla, then click here!
Also, it would be great to know if you’ve been to a Tortilla before and what your thoughts are on it? Or let me know if I’ve inspired you to go!
